IVRP
(Intensive Vocational Rehabilitation Program)
is a wraparound program offering vocational
services to the seriously mentally ill whose
treatment needs are more extensive than
a normal vocational program setting can
provide. The program is a cooperative effort
comprised of representatives from the County
MH/MR Program Office, Base Service Unit,
OVR, Goodwill, CRCSI, and D&A.
The
program’s aim and philosophy is to
utilize the strengths of the consumers in
a progressively structured, work oriented
situation. Emphasis is placed on the individual’s
responsibility for managing their illness
by using a variety of community supports.
The overall end result is to reduce the
need for psychiatric hospitalizations.
Service
Offering:
The
program is divided into three phases.
-
Phase
I is typically a prevocational
and assessment phase. It emphasizes
the development of work habits and attitudes,
life skills, and relationship skills
that are basic to becoming employable.
Clients attend 6 hours daily, 1 to 5
days weekly for an 8 week period. It
is at the culmination of Phase I when
clients are referred for OVR services
or alternate programming. Phase II usually
emphasizes the sponsorship of OVR.
-
Phase
II consists of a combination
of PWAT and job development/job search
or Transitional Employment. Length of
time spent in this phase depends upon
the clients need to solidify work skills
and attitudes developed in Phase I.
During Phase II, clients are to attend
a biweekly aftercare support group to
identify and remedy potential problems
that could affect continued job performance.
-
Phase
III is the placement of an
individual into competitive employment
with job coaching and supports as needed.
At this point, it is expected that the
client will utilize other community
resources as they arise.
