About The Group

Losing a child is one of the most tragic things that could happen to anyone. The emotional blow associated with child loss can lead to a wide range of psychological and physiological problems including depression, anxiety, cognitive and physical symptoms linked to stress, marital problems, increased risk for suicide, pain and guilt. The grief can be long lasting and change the lives of the family involved forever. But you don’t have to feel alone in that journey.Coping with the Loss of a Child meets in a small group format to support the emotional needs of grieving parents with therapeutic support and in the company of others who truly understand. During therapy, you may:

  • Learn about complicated grief and how it’s treated
  • Explore such topics as grief reactions, complicated grief symptoms, adjusting to your loss and redefining your life goals
  • Retell the circumstances of the death to help you become less distressed by images and thoughts of your loved one
  • Explore and process thoughts and emotions
  • Improve coping skills
  • Work toward moving forward with new purpose

My approach to treatment is based on a person-centered care model. This allows my clients to actively participate in their own treatment in close cooperation with me. It is a way of thinking and doing things that sees the people using health and social services as equal partners in planning, developing and monitoring care to make sure it meets your needs. This means putting you at the center of everything we do. I approach every session with a trauma informed attitude so events that leave an emotional imprint can be effectively explored.
